Fire Hydrant Winter Maintenance Order
The following ordinance was adopted at the Town Meeting on Thursday, October 22nd, 2015.
All snow and ice accumulating in the street higher than a point of four inches below the bottom of the lowest outlet on any fire hydrant, and within a radius of three feet from the center of such hydrant, shall be removed by the owner, agent of the owner or occupant of the premises adjoining that portion of the street within 24 hours after such snow and ice has ceased to fall, be deposited or accumulate. Said owner, agent of owner or occupant shall also clear a path having a minimum width of three feet between any fire hydrant and the edge of the traveled portion of the abutting street, highway, private road or drive. First offense for failure to comply with the ordinance will result in a written warning. Second to fourth offense a $50.00 fine will be assessed on the property owner. Fifth offense or greater will increase to $100.00. Appeals of any fine will be made to the Board of Selectmen within thirty days.
Removal of snow or ice from sidewalks
Suffield Code, Article I, Sec. 15-2
(a) Generally. The owner, tenant or occupant of any premises, in the town adjoining and fronting on any such sidewalk shall, within six (6) hours of daylight immediately following the cessation of any storm of snow, ice or sleet or the accumulation of ice or snow thereon, cause the same to be removed from such sidewalk and if the same cannot be wholly removed, shall sprinkle thereon sufficient sand or other proper substance so that such sidewalk shall be made safe for travel.
