You may have heard of various incidents around the state over the past several weeks where people posing as ‘water company’ employees have attempted to gain entry into a home to rob the homeowner. Usually, it is the elderly who seem to be the victims of these scams.
Connecticut Water will be using its telephone notification system to raise awareness of this issue with our customers. Over the next few days we will be calling all of our customers throughout the state, including those in your community, advising them not to let anyone into their home who says they are a water company employee unless they can provide a photo identification.
This is not a response to a specific incident but rather is a proactive measure to help protect customers from these types of incidents. In the past we have issued media alerts and regularly have information on our website and in customer bill inserts, but we felt in view of the number of incidents that have been reported across Connecticut in the past few months that we would take another approach to be sure all of our customers get the information.
