    Conservation Commission

    The purpose of the Suffield Conservation Commission is to uphold the inland wetland and watercourses statutes of Connecticut which is "to protect the citizens of the state by making provisions for the protection, preservation, maintenance and use of the inland wetlands and watercourses by minimizing their disturbance and pollution; maintaining and improving water quality in accordance with the highest standards set forth by federal, state or local authority; preventing damage from erosion, turbidity or siltation; prevention of the loss of fish and other beneficial aquatic organisms, wildlife and vegetation and the destruction of the natural habitats thereof ..."(CT State Statute§22a-36)

    The commission is made up of seven resident electors of the Town and two alternates, appointed by the Board of Selectmen to terms of four years.

    Sunrise and Stony Brook Parks

    Sunrise Park

    • Sunrise Park Superintendent, Tom Drakely

    • Purchased by the townspeople from the estate of Edward M. White
    • Dedicated July 2, 1966
    • Mrs. Karl Kulle suggested the park’s name because of Easter Sunday Services held there annually at Sunrise
    • Open to Suffield residents and their guests (town stickers required)
    • Reservations for group use and pavilion must be made with the superintendent by filling out Sunrise Park Reservation Form

    Stony Brook Park

    • 70-acre park given to town by Charles S. Bissell in 1968 for park conservation
    • Camping permitted with permit

    General Park Info

    • Conservation Commission oversees upkeep of Sunrise and Stony Brook Parks
    • Parks can be enjoyed for passive recreation
    • Parks open daily from 8:00 a.m. to published sunset time
    • Walking trails close ½ hour before published sunset time

    Reservations for Sunrise Park

    • Reservations accepted through Sunrise Park Superintendent, Thomas Drakeley at 668-3846
    • Reservations for each year will not be taken until January 1st
    • Sunrise Park Reservation Form
    • Deposit fee of $50.00 required at time of reservation in the form of check made payable to “Town of Suffield”
    • Deposit will not be cashed; it will be attached to reservation and returned after function provided pavilion is left clean and no damage to park property
